10,795 hectares
This project, which is within close range of Kerinci Seblat National Park (KSNP), covering 10,795 hectares.
The main threat to the forest areas is from land use change from forest to agriculture, particularly because of the expansion of the village settlements, which intensifies access to the forest and therefore the potential for further encroachment. Other threats include illegal logging, hunting and human-wildlife conflict.
Together with the Rimba Collective, QBAR will focus on the strengthening of the forest management institutions, the development and enforcement of the village forest boundaries, supporting forest patrol and monitoring, biodiversity monitoring, raising awareness of indigenous customary land rights and compiling a native medicinal plant inventory (thereby increasing the value of the forest in the eyes of the indigenous community), developing local alternative livelihoods, and awareness-raising and coordination with local stakeholders. The project will also contribute to mitigating the effects of habitat fragmentation in the landscape surrounding Kerinci Seblat National Park (KSNP).
